Conference Genie Review

Conference Genie’s conference calling service is straight forward and easy to set up; the site itself is very simple with big text making it easy for you to read and navigate around the site. However the cartoon character images on the homepage are slightly off putting, giving the impression of a small amateur company. The sparkling effects do nothing more than make the site look lightweight and somewhat childish.

There are three services offered; Go, Plus and Pro. Go offers a simple service where the user enters their email address, receives a PIN and then starts conferencing. The Plus service works the same way as Go but with a few extra features, such as real time caller display from your on-line control panel and monthly call reports emailed directly to you. Calls cost 4.3p per minute (ex VAT), the number of international dial-in numbers is limited but includes Austria, France, Ireland, Germany, Spain and Poland.

Once you are a registered user you must choose the type of conference call you require and then create a conference room. Once this is done you are then able to use a number of features including, a meeting organiser tool which is somewhat complicated to use, a recording feature which costs £20 per month or £120 annually (most other companies offer this service for free) and a monthly call report which is a useful little feature. You can specify whether or not you need a user guide emailed to you which is something the other companies don’t do, but chances are if you’re using this service you’ll probably need the user guide. All in all there are too many steps to complete before you can start your conference call and it would work better if the whole process was simplified.

The Pro service offers the same as the Plus but gives you dedicated dial-in numbers and low cost calls from mobiles.

Customer service at Conference Genie needs to be improved, the impression given by their staff is that they’re only too happy to get you off the phone.
